Our Side Yard

 Linking up with Cottage Flora Thursday and Fertilizer Friday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our side yard has really filled in this year (the pix in the header is our side yard)  I was looking at it tonight in amazement - it grows and all I do is just love it.  This used to be a place where the grass didn't grow and  was just a forlorn little corner .  With some TLC  it has turned into something beautiful and amazing.
It has been too cold to clean out the pond  - we are doing it next week , but this is the pond part.
The Patio Area
I need some help - so please if you have some suggestions - please share. ..this  corner had a hammock in it - the hammock wore out.  So I need to fill it in with some things - I would like to get a free standing  hammock for this area - it will be smaller than our other one - any ideas on what to put in these raised beds I just created?  Things don't grow well in this area in the ground  very well because of the tree.  Please share any ideas you have!
Today I am thankful for my family and friends - it is my b-day and they have made it a special day for me.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hi,
If the raised beds get partial shade you can plant some Bleeding hearts.
Look here for plant details: http://www.thehostafarm.com/html/dicentra-spectablis.html
Happy Gardening,
Lovely. In the raised beds, how about combos of some different Hosta and Heuchera (Coralbells). They both tolerate shade and the Heuchera in burgundy would give some beautiful color there.
I am your new follower and I hope you'll come by and follow also.
Happy Birthday! I hope it's a fun day for you. I'm at a loss as to what to plant in those raised beds but I think some of your other commenters have some great ideas.
You really have turned the side yard into something special. There's lots of interest in every corner ... great job!
I like Sunray's idea about the raised beds. Even though Heuchera doesn't grow here, I've seen some fabulous varieties out there in the blogging world. There's some brilliant colours now and I think they would add the WOW factor in that corner.
Beautiful hostas. Mine are looking a little sad due to the 100+ weather we have been having.
It is amazing in the difference you have made in that location. It looks so filled in and lush already. It looks like a wonderful spot to chill out on a warm day.
Your side garden is looking great! I agree with the others about plant choices for this other bed. You may also try some sweet woodruff for a lovely little spreader with white star-like flowers and a wonderful scent. There are a lot of perennials that will do great here like primroses, heuchera, Solomon's Seal, astilbes, ferns and so much more. You can make it a cool little paradise in which to relax on a hot day.
How about Hostas, Ladys Mantle, and Astilbe? Sounds like you have some good advice on plant choices.
