Vegetable Garden - March 9

Thanks to Jean at for hosting Blooming Tuesday. I love this day to look at everyone's gardens and what they are doing that sign up and share in this carnival. Check out this link to see other participants http://msgreenthumbjean.blogspot.com/

This week I am still working on my garden plans. I bought veggie seeds and some flower seeds on Friday.

Our local nursery has said that for the first time in 27 years gardening is making a huge comeback and they can't keep in their garden seeds. I decided I better go and get mine. I usually do it in March anyway because I have spring fever by then and it is fun to be in a nursery. I tried to find some herilom seeds because I plan to harvest seeds this fall.

We are in zone 4 so we have warm weather crops and cold weather crops.

The things that will be planted first (sometime in April are:Peas, lettuce, beets, radish, carrots, onions, etc.
The warm weather crops here are things like corn, beans, squash, pumpkins, zucchini, and things I buy that are started like peppers and tomatoes.

I like to dry some of these things so I get extra to do that. I also get an extra bag for next year and tuck it in my basement. I also have a can of heirloom seeds that are canned in case of survival situations.

Good luck with your veggie garden. My nod to vegetable gardening is to grow one tomato plant each spring! But, technically, that's a fruit, so I guess I don't have a veggie garden.

Hope your veggies do well as we also are hoping for a good crop ourselves.

Have fun planting your veggie garden. Growing your own food is starting to become the thing to do again. I will be starting mine in the next few weeks too.

Having a garden is so much labor and fun. For some reason it always takes me back to my childhood each summer. I don't can as much as I should, but I'll be doing more this year than in the past. Hugs, Rosemarie

we are going mostly heirloom, or atleast hybrid free this year. While shopping Sat, hubby HAD to have tomato plants. Too early for us, but we found some and will pot them up inside, so they can continue to get big while they wait to go outside. Please share your veg garden layout.

I don't do veggies but admire anyone that does. The fresh veggies are well worth the errort. This is always the time when I think about what I can do next. So much fun! Jean

I also prefer heirloom vegetable seeds and I have several jars of seeds that I have saved from the year before. I also save marigold flower seeds to plant in my garden each year. Thank you for sharing and I hope your vegetable garden does well.

Blessings,
Elizabeth

I only do a tomato plant once in a while so hubby can have fried green ones.

That sure looked great last summer. What does it look like now? It's good to hear that people are gardening more.

I left you a message at Blotanical; hope to hear from you there.
